Over the last year or so, I've hurt the feelings of a few people with my opinions on the movie version of LotR. I thought that I'd use this forum to see how many more people I can annoy!
First of all, I like the movie(s). The most fantastic thing about it is that it was produced at all. Getting someone in Hollywood to cough up that much money on something that has a potentially small (i.e. geek) audience is nothing short of a miracle.
Just behind that miracle is the overall visual effect. This is a truly beautiful movie. The scenery and buildings fit very well with my reading of Tolkein. I particularly like the Riders of Rohan; picking up the Scandinavian influence in Tolkein's work was just brilliant.
The creatures are great, too. There's something slightly off about the Ents, but I can't put my finger on it. Generally they're good, though. Gollum is just about perfect and the Orcs are delightfully disgusting.
So, what is it that bugs me?
